Hi Susan,

I hear you – the amount of work that goes into blogging is anything but “passive”.

Yet, I still get tempted to start that second site.

Another barrier for me is now premium plugins. There are several that I use and they are only good for one site – so I would need to buy a second license.

All the more reason to stick with one blog. Hopefully I will follow my own advice. 😉

I have started several blogs in the past and when I didn’t see the results fast enough, I would quit that blog and start another one.

It’s so easy to start a blog, but harder to stick with a blog when you’re not seeing the results you want.

I started my blog about 15 months ago and now that I know how much hard work goes into growing a blog, there’s no way that I could start a second blog.

Although, I have thought about it. Like you said we always have lots of ideas that we want to pursue.

I will eventually start a second blog, but not until I get this one off the ground. There’s absolutely no way that I could devote my time wisely to grow two blogs.

I won’t make the same mistakes that I made in the past. This time around I know what I want and I am working hard to get there. This means that I only have time for one blog 🙂

Thanks for sharing this with us, hope you’re doing well. I’ll be sure to pass this along to help others who are thinking about starting a blog.

Have a wonderful weekend 🙂

Susan

Hi Ash,
You got it! Do what you gotta do. Sometimes I worry so much about what other people will think that I don’t make any progress at all. Funny that actually they are probably not thinking anything – about me at least. Sometimes we just have to get out of our own way and do what works for us. If it’s one blog – then one blog it is!

It makes sense to just work on one blog, and I can see you are doing an awesome job already — including monetizing your efforts. Whatever people think or say, you got to do what you got to do, right?

Hi Ash,
Three blogs is certainly a lot of work!
Once upon a time, I had quite a few different sites but it was too much to maintain for me, so I have consolidated everything into this blog for now. It goes against traditional advice, I know. But it is all I can handle right now. 🙂

Hi Mitch,
I had no idea that you have a handful of blogs.
I kid you not, every single day I tell myself that I should start a new one – and then I talk myself off the brink. I just know that I don’t have the time to do it justice – so for now you will see recipes right alongside of blogging tips on this site. 😉

Having two blogs or more makes sense when you have more businesses than one. Or, if it’s just about blogs (as in publications), we can more than one when we are writing about two different topics altogether.

I now have three different blogs (each for a specific business) and I can already see how overwhelming that is. As if one blog wasn’t enough (with all the writing, hustle, and the work that goes into it), I am now multiplying my own workload by 3 times.

I have 5 blogs; I’m a masochist for sure. lol Each one of them has a different niche, which is the good part, but a couple of them could have an article on more than one of the blogs. I mainly concentrate on 2 blogs and write on the others when I’m ready to add something new.

Hi Bren,
As my daughter would say – you are my spirit animal. 😉 I have to hold myself back from starting new blogs on a whim. I get a “great” idea and then dive in without thinking it through. Once reality hits, I regret the time I lost.
I know some people can do more than one blog and make money that way – but I just can’t find enough hours in the day.
Have a great weekend!

Great post! I am the Queen of starting new blogs because I get a hairbrain idea that I want to blog about a different topic that doesn’t fall under, blogging or web design. Then, I get bored with it. I did it again not too long ago and once again, bored. I think you share some pretty healthy advice here for those who want to expand their blogging habits.

Thanks!
